Neighborhood Gossip

Once I got home from school, I opened our patio door because the weather was nice. While I had it open, I was doing some work on the computer and could hear kids playing outside. Normally, I don't pay any attention to the neighborhood kids, but I could hear some of their conversations, here's what I heard:
"Don't eat your boogers it's not good for you!"
"My tongue is bigger than yours!"
"____ just pooped out cookies!" (Couldn't remember the kid's name)

"What kind?
"Did you know dogs poop the same way we do?"
That was all that I could hear, I wish I could've easy dropped more because this was an interesting conversation.

Confession

For the past month, I've been eating the snow off my car. It all started when the Cache Valley got hit with almost 2 ft of snow and my car was covered with the white stuff. The day after the storm, I needed to run some errands, so when I went to clear the snow off my car, I felt like eating some snow and I did. The next time it snowed I felt like eating some snow, so I ate some again. This is becoming a habit every time it snows and I think I've started an addiction. But spring is around the corner and I'll have go cold turkey with the snow.

5 Minutes of Fame

So I haven't had to sign any autographs but I am a local TV star on The Valley Channel (Cache Valley's local TV channel). You may be wondering how I got to be a TV star...well it all came about when I went out for the Miss Indian USU pageant. My motive for the pageant, fame. I've been hiding from the Logan paparazzi ever since the pageant. Going out for the pageant was more work than I bargained for, I actually had to wear make up. I did have to do more than just wear makeup, like coming up two different talents and one group performance. My modern talent was a presentation on sewing, I had five minutes to sew a pillow case. I actually pulled it off and I did it standing, I forgot to tell the guys setting my machine up to put a chair on the stage. My other talent had to be a traditional talent, so with the help of others I did a presentation on the Navajo Wedding Basket. I was quite impressed that I memorized my traditional talent the day of the pageant. There was only one moment of where my mind went blank, thankfully I've had years of practice of shooting my mouth off and just saying anything to fill in the silence. So I guess I was displaying two talents during one presentation. The group performance brought back memories of past performances I had to be in growing up. I forgot some of the hand signals to our group performance on "Go My Son" and so I was had to watch the contestant next to me a couple of times, it was like old times. You can ask my mom on some of my performances in elementary and high school, she'll love to share them.
Behind the scenes and getting ready for the pageant was definitely crazy. I had to run to the dressing room right after my modern talent to get dressed for my traditional talent. Our dressing room was actually a storage room next to the USU kitchen. And when your hungry, it's flat out cruel. I had about 15-20 minutes to get my traditional outfit on, you may think no big deal but there's a lot to looking Navajo. I had to wear traditional moccasins and a Navajo bun. My mom was making my Navajo bun, which I know she probably was probably cursing under her tongue because my hair isn't actually long enough for a Navajo bun.
Now, to tell you about the makeup. Mary Kay offered to do our makeup the night of the pageant, I agreed because I was told I could look pale under all the stage lights. There weren't any mirrors for me to see what was going on my face, so I had to lay total trust in my Mary Kay lady. Once she was done, I went to the women's restroom and saw my face for the first time and I was shocked and how much makeup I had on. My initial thought was "I'm a hooker!" But because I didn't know anything about makeup I just let it go, I whinned a little to my mom, but as a good mom she assured me that I looked fine and didn't look like a hooker. Once the pageant was over and when I got home I washed my face as soon as possible. Except this was no easy task, the eye makeup was plastered on that I washed my eyes about 4 times before I gave up and was going to try again in the morning. Note: I will remember to use eye makeup removal. The next time I had to wear makeup was for the USU Pow Wow, this time my mom would be putting on the makeup. She didn't put much makeup on but we had to put the eye makeup on again. Now for me, eye makeup is the worst because my eyes are really sensitive. Well, like a good mom, she put matters into her own hands or arms. Her solution, she put me in a headlock. I have Emily as my witness. Then we had to do the Navajo bun again but by this time my mom had enough practice that is was getting easier. This pretty much concludes my pageant life, it was fun and definitely a new experience. I have a lot of respect for those who participate in bigger pageants. Some of you may still be shocked but this goes to show you that you never know what I might do, I even surprise myself.

Free Cookies, Free Chapstick, Free Sex Education

Once again I have another story to share in my wonderful life as a student at USU. Well, here is goes, last Wednesday, I got to school early for my afternoon classes and I thought I would kill some time and hang out in the student center. While I was at the student center, there was a health and wellness fair going on, so I went to see what they had. There a few booths, some cookies and a live dating game show. I went to go check the booths, the first booth I visited had a couple raffles going on, free chapstick and suckers, so it was pretty popular. I hurried filled out the raffle cards and went onto the next booth. I get to the next booth and it's not as popular, but they had some free stuff too. Naturally curious, I go to check out this booth and I grab a small clear packet about the 2 inches that contained a gel-like substance. I look at this object for a second and puzzled by what it is, I asked the lady helping at the booth, "What is this?" Her answer, "lubricant". My next response, "Oh, ok" with a little node of I know what she's talking about, but really I didn't. So I stand there with the lubricant in my hand and wondering what the lubricant was used for, so I asked another question for the lady at the booth, "For what?" Her answer, "sex." My response was similar to before, "Oh, ok", then I placed the packet back on the table, smiled and thanked the lady, and walked away from the booth. That was the last booth of the day for me, I had enough of free sex education for one day.

Cruise Control

Well, on Friday, I was running back and forth from home to school pretty much the whole day. So, on my second trip back to school, I was driving down Main Street in Logan and if you're not familiar with Logan, the traffic is either pretty steady or slow and I like to live life in the fast lane. Anyways, I was starting to feel the need for speed so I started glancing at traffic, looking for an open spot to pull ahead. Then, I realized the car in front of me, looked like it had no driver but a tall passenger, in my mind I just thought it must be a short slow driver, so I'll just pass them. I pursued on passing them, when I take a look at the car and I was shocked to see that there's actually noone in the driver seat, but the passenger is reaching over to the driver side and steering the vehicle. The vehicle started to get in the turning lane, so I switched lanes so I could investigate more. I slowed down as the vehicle is waiting to turn left and I was correct in what I saw. A tall woman passenger driving a car from the passenger seat, with no driver in sight or least not in the driver seat. Now you're probably thinking was this car a driver's ed car, well, no it wasn't because I got to examine this car pretty well, although I didn't get to examine the inside of the car, but I know it wasn't a driver's ed car. This goes down as one of the weirdest things I've witnessed and again I have no witnesses to back me up.

Destine to Fall

A lot of people don't believe it snows in Arizona, but I'm here to clarify this rumor, it does snow there but only in the northern parts of Arizona. So while I was living in Flagstaff, I had the opportunities to play in the snow but my memories are almost non existent. My only recollection of having played in the snow comes from stories from my mom. First, she would bundle me up really good, walk me outside and because I was so bundled up I couldn't move, then our dog, Spuds would show his love by jumping on me and knocking me over, then I was left laying in the snow until my mom would come help me back up. Well, now that I'm a lot older and I don't have my mom bundling me up to go play in the snow, I still end up laying in the laying in the snow. Except now, I don't have a dog to blame, just a lack of grace as an excuse. But at least, I'm not the only one that lacks grace while being on snow, I've got some great friends to join my club. A couple of weeks ago, Emily, Nikki and I, had a weekend of fun in the snow, but we had our ups and downs during this weekend. The ups were the fun while we were sledding and cross-country skiing. The only downs we had were the falls from skiing and trying to get back up again; and also the wipeouts from sledding, ok well, I was the only one to wipeout during sledding, but that never stopped me before and it never stopped me that day. I just keep looking for the adventure in life, even if it means eating some powder.

Hiking is An Adventure

I moved to Logan, Utah in August 2007 and my favorite thing about this place is hiking. The scenary is so beautiful that how could not love hiking here. Now there have been a couple of times when we (my friends and I) have chosen to go hiking at the wrong times, but nevertheless it has always been fun. Now I wanted to test out my blogging skills, so I added a slideshow of pictures of some of the hikes we've done. Enjoy!
